Winter Getaway: Exploring Wellington in Sustainable Style

Are you yearning for a winter getaway filled with art, culture, and sustainable fashion? Look no further than Wellington, New Zealand's vibrant capital city. Join me as I share my recent long weekend excursion to Wellington, where I immersed myself in the city's artistic vibe, visited iconic landmarks, indulged in delicious cuisine, and, of course, showcased my stylish outfits from Ames Store. So, pack your bags and get ready for an unforgettable adventure.

My Wellington journey began with an exploration of the city's captivating street art scene. As I strolled through the bohemian streets, I stumbled upon a mesmerising mural paying homage to the legendary David Bowie (one of my favs!), featuring the iconic Ziggy Stardust persona. The vibrant colours and artistic expression left me in awe and inspired me to embrace creativity in my own style choices. It was an ideal spot for a memorable photo op!

Next, I made my way to Te Papa, the national museum of New Zealand. This cultural treasure trove offered a fascinating glimpse into the country's rich history, art, and natural heritage. I mainly wanted to visit Gallipoli: The Scale of Our War exhibition, it it did not disappoint. From the interactive exhibits to captivating artefacts, Te Papa provided an immersive experience that deepened my appreciation for New Zealand's diverse culture and offered a truly enlightening experience that left me in awe.

Of course, no trip to Wellington would be complete without indulging in some retail therapy. I found myself irresistibly drawn to the local boutiques scattered throughout the city. These hidden gems showcased unique designs and sustainable fashion options. As I entered each store, I couldn't help but feel a sense of joy knowing that my fashion choices aligned with my commitment to the environment. The sustainable outerwear and beautiful dresses from Ames Store were the perfect companions for my chilly Wellington adventure.

Of course, a memorable trip wouldn't be complete without savouring Wellington's culinary delights. I had the pleasure of dining at Ombra, my favourite restaurant, where I indulged in delectable Italian cuisine. The warm ambience and impeccable service made it an unforgettable dining experience. I highly recommend the zucchini dish, absolutely deliziosa!

To kickstart my mornings, I frequented August Eatery, which had a soft and warm interior. August is a charming café known for its delicious brunch offerings. The locally sourced ingredients and delightful presentation of each dish were a treat for both the taste buds and the eyes.

I no longer drink coffee but my husband does and we found Customs, a cosy coffee shop right across from the Bowie mural. He sipped on their expertly crafted brews, while I got stuck into their egg's on toast. Watching the world go by was delightful, as well as meeting the local's cute dogs was an added extra benefit.

To experience a touch of nostalgia, I hopped on the vintage tram car, which provided a delightful journey up a steep hill to the top of the botanical gardens. As I glided up to the picturesque scenic landscape overlooking the sea, mountains and city, I marvelled at the city's charm and appreciated how Wellington seamlessly combines history with modernity. I was lucky enough to have gone up on a clear sunny day.

Wellington Botanical Gardens provided a serene escape and a moment of tranquillity amidst the urban bustle. Nestled on the slopes of the city's hills, the garden offered a serene sanctuary. Amidst the lush greenery and blooming flowers, I  found solace in nature's beauty. The well-maintained trails and captivating landscapes made it the perfect setting for a leisurely stroll and some introspection.
